Stanislaus County, CA – A man lost his life, and two others were hurt in a head-on crash east of Waterford on Thursday night, December 26, 2024, according to KCRA.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident happened around 6:02 PM on Highway 132 near Rushing Road.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a man driving a sedan was heading east on Highway 132 when he tried to pass other cars by moving into the opposite lane. While doing so, he crashed head-on into a pickup truck going west.
The sedan’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released his identity, pending notification of next of kin.
The pickup truck’s driver sustained moderate injuries, while his passenger suffered major injuries. Both were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
CHP confirmed that the pickup truck driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash. It remains unclear whether impairment was a factor for the sedan driver.
The cause of the collision is under investigation.
Wrongful Death Claims
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Liability rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. A personal injury attorney can play a crucial role in helping victims establish legal responsibility after a traffic accident.
Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
