Turlock, CA – A woman lost her life Monday evening, December 23, 2024, after being struck by a pickup truck while walking along Harding Road near Highway 165, according to The Modesto Bee.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the incident occurred around 6:30 PM on Harding Road, east of Lander Avenue. Emergency responders arrived to find the woman lying in the roadway and a 2015 GMC pickup truck at the scene with visible crash damage, authorities said.
CHP investigators reported that the pickup, driven by 69-year-old Emmanuel Silva of Turlock, was traveling eastbound when it collided with the pedestrian, who was walking in the roadway. Silva stayed at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement. Officials confirmed that he was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.
The woman, whose identity has not yet been released by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name was not available as of Tuesday morning.
The CHP continues to investigate the circumstances of the collision. Further details have not been disclosed.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for pedestrians near the roadway and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
Should the at-fault driver avoid legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
