Single-Vehicle Crash Kills Child, Injures 2 on I-5 near West el Camino Exit in Sacramento

Sacramento, CA — Wet weather conditions appear to have played a role in a single-vehicle collision on the morning of Saturday, December 14, 2024, which resulted in a child losing their life and the hospitalization of two others, according to The Sacramento Bee.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around 10:15 AM on Interstate 5 near the West El Camino exit.

According to initial investigations, a silver Lexus driven by an adult man was transporting three juvenile passengers when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The Lexus spun out and struck a tree, leading to serious injuries.

Emergency responders transported three of the Lexus’s occupants to a nearby hospital for treatment, where one child succumbed to their wounds. The identity of those involved has not yet been released to the public.

Authorities have given no indication whether they believe drugs or alcohol to have played a role in this tragic accident.

Single-Vehicle Collisions and Passenger Liability

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility.

California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages. A personal injury attorney can play a critical role in sorting through these details to help victims and their families get the compensation they deserve.

Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a Wrongful Death or Personal Injury claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming.

A skilled personal injury attorney can help families pursue proper compensation for their loss by handling these legal complexities and negotiating with insurance companies, who always try to reduce payouts on claims they cannot deny.
