Bakersfield, CA – As of Monday, December 2, 2024, the Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman who lost her life in a rollover crash on Westside Parkway in July as 23-year-old Andrea Montero of Bakersfield, according to KBAK.
Around 7:17 AM, Officers from the Bakersfield Police Department responded to reports of an overturned vehicle near the embankment on the west side of Mohawk Street, close to the Westside Parkway. Upon arrival, officers discovered Montero in the driver’s seat of the overturned vehicle, suffering from severe injuries. Tragically, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Montero had been driving westbound on the Mohawk off-ramp from the Westside Parkway at a high rate of speed. The vehicle reportedly continued across Mohawk Street, went off the embankment, overturned multiple times, and ultimately came to rest upside down.
Authorities are still working to determine the exact cause of the crash. No additional details have been released at this time as the investigation remains ongoing.
Andrea Montero’s death marks a somber reminder of the dangers posed by excessive speed and the importance of roadway safety.
Single-Vehicle Collisions and Comparative Negligence
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility.
California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages. A personal injury attorney can play a critical role in sorting through these details to help victims and their families get the compensation they deserve.
