Fresno County, CA – According to The Fresno Bee, a 36-year-old Del Rey man identified as Armando Jimenez Cadena was killed Tuesday morning, December 3, 2024, in a collision with a big rig during dense fog.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident occurred at approximately 9:30 AM at the intersection of McCall and Parlier Avenues, an area surrounded by farmland and known for its challenging driving conditions during foggy weather.
The CHP reported that Cadena and a female passenger were traveling westbound on Parlier Avenue in their truck. The driver of the Chevrolet stopped at a stop sign at the intersection with McCall Avenue.
As they pulled forward into the intersection, a big rig traveling north on McCall entered the same space, causing a collision between the right front of the truck and the front of the big rig. The force of the crash caused the truck to become lodged under the big rig.
In the aftermath of the crash, Cadena was ejected from the vehicle, and the Chevrolet truck caught fire. Emergency personnel from Cal Fire arrived quickly and extinguished the flames. Unfortunately, Cadena was pronounced dead at the scene.
His female passenger was pulled from the wreckage by a passing motorist and rushed to a local hospital. The driver of the big rig, who was uninjured in the crash, has cooperated fully with the investigation.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but CHP officers believe the foggy conditions played a significant role. Visibility in the area was reported to be less than 100 feet at the time of the incident.
Wrongful Death Claims
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Liability rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. A personal injury attorney can play a crucial role in helping victims establish legal responsibility after a traffic accident.
Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
