Piedmont, CA — A devastating crash early Wednesday morning, November 27, 2024, in Piedmont claimed the lives of three individuals and left one other severely injured, according to KCRA.
The incident involved a Tesla Cybertruck that crashed at the intersection of Hampton Road and King Avenue, shortly after 3 AM.
Piedmont Police report that the collision was first reported through an iPhone alert from a passenger in the vehicle at 3:08 AM, followed by a 911 call two minutes later. Upon arrival, officers found the Tesla engulfed in flames, wedged between a retaining wall and a sidewalk.
There were four people inside the vehicle when it crashed. A driver of another car, who arrived shortly after the crash, bravely pulled one of the occupants from the burning vehicle.
Fire crews arrived eight minutes after the initial alert and quickly extinguished the flames.
The other three passengers, unfortunately, did not survive and were pronounced dead at the scene. The person who was rescued was transported to a hospital with severe injuries.
At this time, police have not released the identities of those involved out of respect for their families. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the crash, although speed is believed to be a contributing factor.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain unclear, but it’s believed the group had been leaving a function before the accident occurred. Authorities are still investigating whether the occupants were incapacitated from the crash or trapped when the vehicle caught fire.
Single-Vehicle Collisions and Passenger Liability
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility.
California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages. A personal injury attorney can play a critical role in sorting through these details to help victims and their families get the compensation they deserve.
Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a Wrongful Death claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming.
A skilled personal injury attorney can help families pursue proper compensation for their loss by handling these legal complexities and negotiating with insurance companies, who always try to reduce payouts on claims they cannot deny.
