Fresno, CA — 47-year-old Sokhoeun Sem Long of Fresno has been identified as the victim of a deadly crash that occurred early Tuesday morning, November 26, 2024, on Highway 180, according to The Fresno Bee.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the crash happened just after 5:30 AM during heavy rain. Long was a passenger in a 2017 Toyota Tundra traveling west on Highway 180 when the driver lost control on the wet roadway. The truck struck a concrete bridge wall, became airborne, and dropped approximately 25 to 30 feet onto Highway 41 below.
Long was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 54-year-old man, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a hospital. Authorities confirmed the driver had a suspended license but stated that alcohol and drugs were not suspected factors in the crash.
The incident highlights the dangers of driving in inclement weather. CHP officials reminded motorists to reduce speeds and ensure their tires are in good condition to improve safety during rainy conditions.
Single-Vehicle Collisions and Passenger Liability
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility.
California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages. A personal injury attorney can play a critical role in sorting through these details to help victims and their families get the compensation they deserve.
Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a Wrongful Death claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming.
A skilled personal injury attorney can help families pursue proper compensation for their loss by handling these legal complexities and negotiating with insurance companies, who always try to reduce payouts on claims they cannot deny.
