The accident occurred shortly after 5 PM at Northpoint Parkway and Corrigan Street. Police and fire crews responded to reports of a major collision involving a USPS vehicle and a GMC Denali SUV.
According to Santa Rosa police, Hernandez was standing outside his postal truck, sorting mail, when the SUV struck him. The SUV continued into the front yard of a nearby residence. Responders found Hernandez lying in the roadway, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police stated that the SUV driver appeared to have suffered a medical emergency before losing control of the vehicle. The driver, who sustained minor injuries, was transported to a local hospital.
Hernandez had served as a mail carrier for eight years. A statement from the U.S. Postal Service confirmed his identity and expressed condolences to his family and coworkers.
A candlelight vigil held Tuesday evening at the scene was attended by coworkers, neighbors, and family members. Relatives of the deceased have created a GoFundMe to assist with funeral expenses. Santa Rosa police continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision.
Wrongful Death Claims
Losing a loved one in a traffic accident is devastating, and the pain can be made worse by the financial strain that often follows. Medical bills, funeral costs, and the loss of income to support dependents of the deceased can leave families struggling.
Filing a Wrongful Death claim against those responsible can provide compensation to help with these expenses. However, insurance companies will always try to pay as little as possible, making it difficult for families to receive the full amount they deserve.
This is why having an experienced personal injury attorney is essential so that they can fight to make sure you receive fair compensation and justice for your loved one.
