Cali-Marie Roth, 14, Killed in Pedestrian Crash on I-5 near West St in Woodland

Woodland, CA — A 14-year-old girl who was killed late Thursday night, November 14, 2024, while walking along Interstate 5 has been identified as Cali-Marie Roth, according to KCRA.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident occurred around 11:25 PM in the southbound lanes of I-5 near West Street, south of Highway 16. Roth, a freshman at Woodland High School, was struck by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene.

Her mother, Sunnie Robertson, said Cali had been spending the night at a friend’s house and left after becoming emotional about something. While walking along the freeway, she was fatally struck.

The CHP is investigating the incident and has not released additional details. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact their office.

A GoFundMe has been created to assist with funeral expenses, highlighting Cali’s interests in creating clothes, skateboarding, and spending time with friends.

Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims

Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for pedestrians near the roadway and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.

For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.

Should the at-fault driver avoid legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.

If you or someone you love was harmed in an accident like the one described here, feel free to contact Maison Law for any questions or to receive a no-cost, no-obligation case assessment.
