Lamont, CA – A collision between a Nissan and a Freightliner big rig on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, resulted in one fatality, according to KBAK.
The accident occurred around 9:03 PM on Weedpatch Highway at East Fairview Road and temporarily closed northbound lanes of the highway at Panama Lane.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the Freightliner, which was pulling two tank trailers, was turning onto the northbound lanes of Weedpatch Highway from East Fairview Road when the Nissan, traveling northbound, struck the left side of the first trailer. The impact left the driver of the Nissan dead at the scene.
The driver of the Freightliner remained on-site and is cooperating with investigators. Authorities are working to determine whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
CHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. The identity of the deceased is expected to be released later, pending notification of next of kin.
Wrongful Death Claims
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Liability rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. A personal injury attorney can play a crucial role in helping victims establish legal responsibility after a traffic accident.
If someone else is found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
