Laton, CA — Two drivers suspected of DUI were involved in a collision Tuesday night, November 5, 2024, near Laton, resulting in one driver suffering serious injuries, according to KSEE.

The accident took place at the intersection of Cedar Street and Mt. Whitney Avenue when one driver allegedly ran a stop sign and collided with another driver who was also suspected of being impaired. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, which officers say likely saved their lives.

The driver who failed to stop at the sign sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital. Their current condition has not been released, and further updates on their recovery are expected.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is continuing to investigate the incident.

Personal Injury Claims

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and in California, several parties can share partial liability. A Personal Injury attorney plays a crucial role in helping victims establish legal responsibility after a traffic accident.

If it is found that another party contributed to the injuries, victims may be eligible to file a personal injury claim with the responsible party’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover damages such as hospital bills and lost income during recovery.

California DUI Law

Section 23153(a) of the California Vehicle Code (CVC) states that it is illegal for any driver to “Operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and, as a result, cause bodily injury to someone else.”
