Arden-Arcade, CA – An elderly woman lost her life Friday night, November 1, 2024, after being struck by a bus while crossing the street in the Arden-Arcade area, according to ABC10.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the collision occurred around 8:30 PM at the intersection of Butano Drive and Watt Avenue, near the Country Club Plaza shopping center.
According to CHP, the woman was crossing against a red light when she was hit by a paratransit bus traveling through the intersection. Emergency responders arrived promptly, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the paratransit bus remained on-site and cooperated with authorities as they began their investigation.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department confirmed the fatality and noted that the crash occurred amid challenging weather conditions. Sacramento had just experienced its first storm of the season, with rainfall creating slick roads across the area. The National Weather Service had cautioned drivers about the wet conditions that could make driving more difficult.
The identity of the woman has not yet been released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office. CHP, the agency leading the investigation, has not provided additional details regarding the incident at this time.
