DUI Suspect William Bryan Cubias-Martinez, 26, Arrested after Passenger Killed in Hwy 65 Single-Vehicle Crash in Placer County

Placer County, CA – According to KCRA, a 24-year-old Yuba City woman lost her life as the passenger of a single-vehicle accident on Highway 65 early Tuesday morning, October 29, 2024.

The driver involved, 26-year-old William Bryan Cubias-Martinez from Marysville, was allegedly under the influence when he lost control of the vehicle around 1:20 AM, leading to the fatal accident north of Nelson Lane.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that Cubias-Martinez was driving northbound on Highway 65 when the vehicle went off-road and overturned multiple times. His female passenger was ejected from the car during the crash, suffering fatal injuries at the scene.

Cubias-Martinez was taken to a nearby hospital with significant injuries. After receiving medical attention, he was released and subsequently arrested on charges of felony vehicular manslaughter and DUI. He has been booked into the Placer County Jail as CHP continues its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Passenger Liability

Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a Wrongful Death or injury claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming.

A skilled personal injury attorney can help families pursue proper compensation for their loss by handling these legal complexities and negotiating with insurance companies, who always try to reduce payouts on claims they cannot deny.

California DUI Law

Section 23153(a) of the California Vehicle Code (CVC) states that it is illegal for any driver to “Operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and, as a result, cause bodily injury to someone else.”
