Ventura, CA – Early Sunday morning, October 27, 2024, a collision on a Ventura roadway claimed the lives of a motorcyclist and a pedestrian who had exited her car after an initial accident, according to KEYT.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the incident began shortly after 6:00 AM when a 33-year-old woman crashed her vehicle and stepped out onto the road. As she exited her car, a 54-year-old man on a motorcycle collided with her in the middle of the roadway. The impact left both the woman and the motorcyclist with fatal injuries, and they were found deceased at the scene.
CHP noted that both individuals’ identities are being withheld until their families can be notified. No arrests have been made, as this is considered a tragic accident.
Investigators are working to determine if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
Wrongful Death Claims
Determining fault in an accident can involve many factors. One key way a personal injury attorney can support families after the loss of a loved one is by helping to establish legal responsibility.
If someone else is found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
Comparative Negligence
California Law upholds the concept of Comparative Negligence, which allows more than one party to share blame in a personal injury accident. Injured victims may have their compensation reduced if they are found partially to blame.
