Waterford, CA – A woman lost her life in a crash on Highway 132 in Stanislaus County on Wednesday afternoon, October 16, 2024, according to KCRA.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported the accident occurred around 3 PM, just east of Crabtree Road, near the town of Waterford.
Officials say the woman was driving eastbound when she lost control of her car. Her vehicle swerved, rotating counterclockwise into the opposite lane. A pickup truck, unable to avoid the collision, crashed into the rear of her car.
The woman was transported to a nearby hospital but, despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries. The two individuals in the pickup truck suffered minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.
CHP is continuing to investigate the crash, including whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident.
Wrongful Death Claims
Determining fault in an accident can involve many factors. One key way a personal injury attorney can support families after the loss of a loved one is by helping to establish legal responsibility.
If someone else is found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
Comparative Negligence
California Law upholds the concept of Comparative Negligence, which allows more than one party to share blame in a personal injury accident. Injured victims may have their compensation reduced if they are found partially to blame.
