SR-132 Crash near Crabtree Rd Kills 1, Injures Billy Stilley, Jason Crum in Modesto

Modesto, CA – A woman lost her life in a devastating crash on SR-132 east of Crabtree Road that also injured two men identified as Billy Stilley and Jason Crum on Wednesday afternoon, October 16, 2024, according to ABC10.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the collision occurred just after 3 PM and involved a 2001 Toyota sedan and a 1995 Toyota pickup.

The female driver of the Toyota sedan was critically injured in the crash and was rushed to Memorial Medical Center. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, she sadly passed away from her injuries. Authorities have not yet released her identity, pending family notification.

The driver of the pickup truck, identified as Billy Stilley, and his passenger, Jason Crum, were also taken to Memorial Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the woman was driving east on SR-132 when she lost control while navigating a left curve. Her sedan spun into the westbound lane, directly into the path of Stilley’s pickup truck, which then struck the sedan.

All involved in the accident were wearing seatbelts, according to CHP. The investigation into what caused the driver to lose control is still ongoing, as authorities work to uncover more details about the crash.

Wrongful Death Claims

Determining fault in an accident can involve many factors. One key way a personal injury attorney can support families after the loss of a loved one is by helping to establish legal responsibility.

If someone else is found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.

Comparative Negligence

California Law upholds the concept of Comparative Negligence, which allows more than one party to share blame in a personal injury accident. Injured victims may have their compensation reduced if they are found partially to blame.
