Bakersfield, CA – According to KGET, Krystal Reynaga has been identified as the mother of two who lost her life in a devastating crash early Sunday morning, October 13, 2024, in East Bakersfield. Reynaga was a passenger in a vehicle that collided with a Bakersfield police cruiser at the intersection of Niles Street and Kern Street.
The crash, which occurred around 5:40 AM, also claimed the life of the driver, who has not yet been identified. A 2-year-old child, also in the vehicle, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. The child’s current condition has not been released.
The Bakersfield Police Department reports that the vehicle was traveling northbound on Kern Street when it allegedly failed to stop at a posted stop sign and collided with the police cruiser. The impact of the crash ejected the driver from the vehicle, and emergency responders pronounced the driver dead at the scene. Reynaga was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries but tragically did not survive.
The officers involved in the collision sustained minor to moderate injuries and are expected to recover. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash, including whether speed or impairment played a role.
