Fatal Head-On Crash with Wrong-Way Driver on Hwy 99 in Sutter County

Sutter County, CA – A 25-year-old Marysville woman lost her life in a head-on collision early Sunday morning, October 13, 2024, after reportedly driving the wrong way on Highway 99, according to ABC10.

The incident occurred around 2:34 AM when California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers received reports of a Chrysler Pacifica traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 99. Just one minute later, a crash involving multiple vehicles was reported south of Howsley Road, where the Chrysler had collided head-on with a GMC Denali.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found the woman behind the wheel of the Chrysler unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not yet been released, pending notification of her family by the Sutter County Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the GMC, a 46-year-old man, was transported to a nearby hospital with severe injuries.

At this time, it is unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision, but investigators are working to determine the cause. The CHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and has asked anyone with information to come forward.

Personal Injury Claims

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and in California, several parties can share partial liability. A personal injury attorney plays a crucial role in helping victims establish legal responsibility after a traffic accident.

If it is found that another party contributed to the injuries, victims may be eligible to file a personal injury claim with the responsible party’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover damages such as hospital bills and lost income during recovery
