Pedestrian Injured After Fresno Driver Loses Control of Vehicle at Blackstone, Rialto Ave

Fresno, CA – A man was hospitalized early Tuesday morning, October 8, 2024, after a vehicle lost control and struck him at the intersection of Blackstone and Rialto Avenues in north Fresno, ABC30 reports.

According to authorities, the driver reported experiencing a tire blowout just before 2:30 AM, which led to the vehicle veering off course. The car hit a fire hydrant, a signpost, and then the pedestrian. The driver, reportedly unaware that he had struck the man until after the impact, remained at the scene and fully cooperated with police.

Emergency personnel transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was treated for leg and head injuries. Officers at the scene indicated that alcohol was not involved in the crash.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Duty of Care Toward Pedestrians

Drivers have a specific “Duty of Care” towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for pedestrians near the roadway and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim to ensure they get proper medical treatment and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.

For those injured in a pedestrian accident, filing a Personal Injury claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills and other related damages.

If the at-fault driver avoids legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
