Vandenberg Village, CA – According to KEYT, a collision on Highway 1 near Santa Lucia Road on Sunday evening, September 29, 2024, resulted in the death of an 11-year-old girl. The two-vehicle accident, involving a Toyota Prius and a Toyota Camry, occurred around 5 PM.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the Camry had been stopped, preparing to make a left turn when it was rear-ended by the Prius, driven by a 21-year-old Lompoc man. The young girl, a passenger in the Camry, was critically injured in the impact and later passed away at Lompoc Valley Medical Center.
The occupants of the Camry, a 65-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman from Lompoc, suffered minor injuries. The driver of the Prius sustained major injuries and was also hospitalized.
CHP officers temporarily closed Highway 1 in both directions for over an hour while they investigated the cause of the crash.
Wrongful Death Claims
Losing a loved one in a traffic accident is devastating, and the pain can be made worse by the financial strain that often follows. Medical bills, funeral costs, and the loss of income to support dependents of the deceased can leave families struggling.
Filing a Wrongful Death claim against those responsible can provide compensation to help with these expenses. However, insurance companies will always try to pay as little as possible, making it difficult for families to receive the full amount they deserve.
This is why having an experienced personal injury attorney is essential so that they can fight to make sure you receive fair compensation and justice for your loved one.
Failure to Yield
In California, as in other states, “failure to yield” means that you didn’t give the right of way to the right person at the right time. As such, failure to yield or stop is closely related to the “right of way.” When a motorist fails to yield, stop or otherwise avoid an accident and causes a crash, he or she can be held liable for injuries and damages suffered by a victim.
