Cutler Pedestrian, 49, Killed on First Dr; Driver Arrested

Cutler, CA – A 49-year-old man from Cutler was fatally struck by a vehicle on Saturday night, September 14, 2024, according to KSEE.

The accident occurred around 10:15 PM on First Drive, just west of Cutler Drive.

Authorities say the pedestrian was walking across First Drive when he was hit by a black Dodge Caravan driven by a woman traveling westbound. The exact circumstances that led to the collision are still under investigation, but investigators are looking into the possibility that the driver was impaired by alcohol or drugs at the time.

The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Dodge was not injured in the crash. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers took her into custody following the incident as part of their investigation into the deadly collision.

The CHP urges anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has additional information to come forward to help with the investigation.

Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims

Drivers have a specific “Duty of Care” towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for pedestrians near the roadway and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.

For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.

If the at-fault driver avoids legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
