Fresno, CA – The Fresno County Coroner’s Office has identified the 16-year-old motorcyclist who lost his life in a crash on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, as Austin Ly, a student at Clovis East High School, according to The Fresno Bee.
The accident occurred in the afternoon near the intersection of Tulare Avenue and Fowler Avenue, just a short distance from Fancher Creek Elementary School.
The Fresno Police Department reported that several 911 calls were made reporting the collision between a motorcycle and a sedan around 4 PM. When officers arrived, they found Austin Ly critically injured on the road. Passersby and witnesses had attempted to provide aid until emergency responders could take over. He was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after.
Austin Ly was a well-known and well-liked student at Clovis East High School, particularly involved in the school’s JROTC program. In a statement, Clovis Unified School District expressed that the school community is deeply grieving the loss. The district provided mental health support staff on campus Wednesday to help students and staff cope with the news.
The intersection where the crash occurred is a busy area, surrounded by residential neighborhoods and schools. It was temporarily closed as detectives from the Fresno Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the accident. Authorities reported that the driver of the sedan stayed at the scene and fully cooperated with the investigation. Neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to be factors in the crash.
