Armona, CA – A man lost his life after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Highway 198 on Tuesday night, September 10, 2024, just outside the small Kings County town of Armona, according to KSEE.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the incident occurred around 8:15 PM, near 14th Avenue. The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was attempting to cross the busy highway when he was hit by an oncoming Kia Sorento.
The driver of the Kia, who was not injured in the collision, remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Emergency responders arrived quickly and transported the man to Adventist Medical Center, but despite medical efforts, he later passed away from his injuries.
Authorities have confirmed that neither alcohol nor drugs were factors in the crash. The driver was released after being questioned. The investigation remains ongoing.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Motorists bear an added responsibility, known as the “Duty of Care,” towards pedestrians due to their heightened vulnerability in car accidents, often leading to pedestrian fatalities.
For those who have lost someone in a vehicular fatality, a Wrongful Death claim, made with the help of an experienced personal injury attorney, can provide compensation to alleviate the financial strain of laying their loved one to rest.
If the at-fault driver evades legal consequences, compensation might still be accessible through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Seeking advice from a personal injury attorney can help ascertain the most suitable options in such circumstances.
