Shasta County, CA – A young man lost his life in a fatal jet ski accident early on Saturday, September 7, 2024, on Lake Shasta, according to Fox40.
The accident occurred around 2:45 AM in Shannon Cove, near Sacramento Point, and involved two teenagers and a 21-year-old man.
Authorities responded to reports of a boating collision in the popular recreational area, known for its scenic views and water activities. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies found two injured teens, ages 18 and 19, on the shoreline. The 18-year-old had sustained significant injuries to his chin and face, while the 19-year-old suffered a knee injury. Both teens had been operating a jet ski when they were struck by another jet ski driven by a 21-year-old man.
Although the 21-year-old operator of the other jet ski was unharmed, the two injured teens were transported by deputies to Bridge Bay Marina, where medical crews awaited their arrival. Sadly, after reaching the marina, the 18-year-old victim became unresponsive. He was rushed to a local hospital, where medical staff pronounced him dead shortly after.
The identity of the young man who died is being withheld until his family has been notified. The 19-year-old teen remains under medical care for his knee injury, and the full scope of his recovery is not yet clear.
The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) Boating Safety Unit is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision, though no further details have been released.
