A dangerous wildfire sparked Monday, September 9, 2024, in Trabuco Canyon on the eastern side of Orange County, California. KABC-TV reported that on Tuesday the fire had spread to over 8,000 acres and was being fueled by extremely dry vegetation in the region.
Orange County fire officials say the fire was actually sparked by efforts to reduce fire risk. A county work crew was trying to block access to a recreation area used by motorcyclists to reduce the chance of dry brush catching fire. During their efforts, a spark from heavy machinery started the blaze.
Over 1,000 firefighters are working the blaze, just north of Rancho Santo Margarita. Officials helped evacuate over 1,400 homes in the surrounding area. Sheriff’s Department Officials helped move residents out of the nearby Robinson Ranch and Trabuco Highlands neighborhoods.
As far as the human toll of the frightening blaze is concerned, two fighters have been treated for heat-related injuries and one civilian was sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Several people had to be airlifted from Trabuco Canyon to safety.
The wildfire was dubbed the “Airport Fire”, due to a nearby remote-control airport. Shelter and evacuation sites have been established for victims.
Wildfire Dangers for Orange County Residents
After so many major wildfires in Southern California in recent years, the dangers have been well documented. Victims often face multiple life-threatening challenges as a fire approaches.
In the most tragic cases, victims who can’t escape the wall of flames in time suffer severe burns, smoke inhalation, and in some cases lose their lives. People can be injured during a frantic evacuation. They may have to pay for a temporary place to live. They may find an apartment for their family members only to hear that their homes and possessions have been destroyed. They can never go back.
Victims and their families can be left to wonder if there’s a way to seek justice from a government agency or a utility company that started the fire.
A Word About Wildfire Injury and Damage Claims in Orange County…
If you have lost property due to the Airport Fire, it’s important to know about the legal options you have to seek justice and compensation.
A negligent party that contributed to the creation of a fire could have to provide financial support to victims. A county governmental department or a power company found responsible would have to assist victims in rebuilding their lives. That would mean help with every hospital bill and support for home repair or replacement.
