Single-Vehicle Crash Kills 1 on Hwy 101 near San Antonio St in San Jose; Driver Z. Stacy, 19, Arrested for DUI

San Jose, CA — A young man lost his life in a single-vehicle accident on Highway 101 early Sunday morning, September 1, 2024, according to KRON.

Around 3:31 AM, just south of San Antonio Street, a Mercedes was traveling southbound when the driver lost control, causing the car to veer off the road and crash into the right-hand shoulder.

Among those in the car was a 19-year-old man from San Jose, seated in the backseat. The force of the collision caused him to be ejected from the vehicle, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, also a 19-year-old from San Jose, was taken into custody at the scene. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), alcohol is believed to have played a role in the crash.

The driver, identified by authorities as “Z. Stacy,” now faces serious charges related to the incident.

Passenger Liability

The liability insurance that drivers carry covers accidental harm caused not only to those outside the vehicle but also to passengers within it. While making a Wrongful Death or personal injury claim against someone who knew the victim can be emotionally challenging, the financial burdens following a vehicular accident can be substantial.

A skilled personal injury attorney can help grieving families seek proper compensation for their loss by navigating these complex issues and negotiating on the victim’s behalf with insurance companies, who routinely work to minimize the payout of any claim they cannot deny.

California DUI Law

Section 23153(a) of the California Vehicle Code (CVC) states that it is illegal for any driver to “Operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and, as a result, cause bodily injury to someone else.”
