Fatal Big Rig vs Big Rig Crash on 25 near Hollister

Hollister, CA — A collision involving two big rigs on Highway 25 north of Hollister claimed the life of a 68-year-old man Monday morning, August 26, 2024, according to KSBW.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the incident unfolded around 9:56 AM when a 2017 Freightliner Cascadia, driven by a 70-year-old man from San Jose, was traveling northbound on Highway 25. For reasons still under investigation, the Freightliner crossed the double solid yellow line, veering into the southbound lane. The truck collided head-on with a 2022 Mack Anthem, driven by the 68-year-old man, also from San Jose.

The impact of the collision was catastrophic. The driver of the Mack truck sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Freightliner was ejected from his vehicle due to the force of the collision. He suffered major injuries and was transported to Santa Clara Medical Center, where his condition remains critical.

CHP has indicated that drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in this crash. However, the investigation is ongoing as officers work to determine what caused the Freightliner to cross into oncoming traffic.

Wrongful Death Claims

Whether or not a collision results in criminal charges for any of those involved, families who have lost a loved one in a fatal collision may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim with the insurance provider of the at-fault driver.

The compensation provided by a Wrongful Death claim can relieve the financial burdens created by medical expenses, burial costs, and the loss of income needed to support the deceased’s dependents.

Insurance companies will work to reduce any claim they cannot deny. This is where the help of a knowledgeable personal injury attorney proves invaluable, negotiating on behalf of victims and their families to ensure they receive proper compensation.
