Hwy 113 Crash Kills Bicyclist near Knights Landing, Yolo County

Knights Landing, CA — A bicyclist was fatally injured in a collision with a Jeep on Monday morning, August 12, 2024, in Yolo County, according to The Sacramento Bee.

The accident occurred around 11:30 AM on Highway 113, just west of County Road 102, near the community of Knights Landing.

The incident unfolded when a motorist driving a black Jeep was heading east on County Road 102. At the same time, a bicyclist was traveling on the right-hand shoulder of the same road, moving in the same direction. According to Officer Rodney Fitzhugh, a spokesperson for the CHP’s Woodland office, the bicyclist unexpectedly veered into the path of the Jeep, resulting in the collision.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, and the injured bicyclist was transported to a nearby hospital. Despite efforts to save the individual, they were pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The identity of the bicyclist has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.

No one in the Jeep sustained any injuries during the accident. Preliminary investigations indicate that neither drugs nor alcohol were factors in the crash.

Bicycle Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims

Motorists bear an added responsibility, known as the “Duty of Care,” towards cyclists due to their heightened vulnerability in car accidents, often leading to fatalities. Motorists are expected to stay with injured cyclists to aid in securing help from emergency services and to cooperate with authorities upon their arrival.

For those who have lost a loved one in a vehicular fatality, understanding that a Wrongful Death claim, guided by an experienced personal injury attorney, can provide compensation is crucial. This compensation can alleviate the financial strain of medical bills, burial expenses, and the loss of income for dependents of the deceased.
