South Edison Road, Herring Rd Crash Kills Arvin Man

Arvin, CA — According to KBAK, on Friday, August 2, 2024, an early morning crash southwest of Arvin resulted in the death of a 40-year-old man. The accident occurred around 5:43 AM at the intersection of South Edison Road and Herring Road.

According to preliminary investigations by the CHP, a 24-year-old man from Arvin was driving a 2007 Toyota Corolla southbound on South Edison Road. As he approached the intersection with Herring Road, he slowed for the stop sign but did not come to a complete stop, reducing his speed to only 10 to 15 mph.

At the same time, a 59-year-old Arvin resident was driving a 2023 Toyota Tacoma westbound on Herring Road at approximately 55 mph, where there are no stop signs at the intersection with South Edison Road.

The Toyota Tacoma collided with the left side of the Toyota Corolla as the Corolla entered the intersection. The impact of the collision caused significant damage to the vehicles and severe injuries to the occupants.

The 40-year-old man from Arvin, who was the left rear passenger in the Toyota Corolla, sustained critical injuries and was transported to Kern Medical for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he passed away later that day.

Both drivers and multiple passengers in both vehicles sustained minor to moderate injuries. They were taken to Adventist Health and Kern Medical for medical attention.

The CHP noted that alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in this crash. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine the exact circumstances leading to the collision.

Stop Sign Laws

California Law requires drivers to come to a complete stop at a Stop sign (California Vehicle Code 22450). Drivers may only enter the intersection when it appears safe for all parties to do so (California Vehicle Code 21802).

Wrongful Death Claims

Whether or not a collision results in criminal charges for any of those involved, families who have lost a loved one in a fatal collision may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim with the insurance provider of the at-fault driver.

The compensation provided by a Wrongful Death claim can relieve the financial burdens created by medical expenses, burial costs, and the loss of income needed to support the deceased’s dependents.

Insurance companies will work to reduce any claim they cannot deny. This is where the help of a knowledgeable personal injury attorney proves invaluable, negotiating on behalf of victims and their families to ensure they receive proper compensation.
