Fresno County, CA — According to The Fresno Bee, on Tuesday afternoon, July 30, 2024, a young motorcyclist lost his life following a broadside collision with a pickup truck. The two-vehicle crash occurred at 5:13 PM at the intersection of Manning and Smith Avenue.
According to investigations from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a 23-year-old man from Reedley was riding a Yamaha R6 motorcycle eastbound on Manning Avenue towards Smith Avenue as another Reedley resident was driving a Nissan Frontier pickup truck westbound on Manning Avenue.
The driver of the Nissan attempted a U-turn to head eastbound on Manning when, for reasons that remain under investigation, the motorcycle collided with the right side of the truck. The impact of the collision ejected the motorcyclist from his bike, and the motorcycle came to rest within the eastbound lanes of Manning Avenue.
Despite the prompt response from emergency personnel, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead upon arrival at a hospital in Reedley. The driver of the pickup truck did not sustain any injuries in the crash.
Authorities do not believe that alcohol or drugs were factors in the incident. The California Highway Patrol is conducting a comprehensive investigation to determine the precise cause of the accident.
