Roseville, CA — Five individuals were hospitalized on Sunday, July 21, 2024, after a two-car collision in Roseville. The incident occurred just before 3 PM at the Eureka Road offramp from eastbound I-80, according to ABC10.
The crash involved a 2017 Nissan Frontier driven by 52-year-old Dale Benjamin of Antelope, who was reportedly traveling at a high speed on the interchange from southbound Atlantic Street to eastbound I-80. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that Benjamin “failed to negotiate the cloverleaf” and veered across a median separating the 80 on-ramp from the Eureka Road off-ramp.
The Nissan Frontier then collided with a 2020 Hyundai Palisade driven by 43-year-old Ryan Penano of Rancho Cordova, causing the Palisade to overturn. The Frontier continued southward across all lanes of the off-ramp, eventually striking a metal guardrail and descending a steep embankment.
The impact of the collision resulted in significant injuries. Benjamin sustained major injuries, while his passenger suffered moderate injuries. Penano and his two child passengers were also critically injured. All five individuals were promptly transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center by ambulance.
CHP noted that all parties involved were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation.
