Bicyclist Killed After Being Hit by Vehicle on Santa Fe Road in San Joaquin County

Riverbank, CA – A bicyclist was fatally struck by a vehicle early Wednesday morning, July 17, 2024, just north of Riverbank in San Joaquin County, according to CBS13.

The collision took place shortly before 6 AM on Santa Fe Road, south of Hall Road. This area, known for its mix of residential and agricultural land, typically sees light traffic during early morning hours.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the bicyclist was traveling south on Santa Fe Road when a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a man at approximately 50 mph, approached from behind. For reasons still under investigation, the driver did not see the cyclist and collided with him.

The impact of the crash caused the bicycle’s tire to dislodge and strike a 2023 Ford traveling in the opposite direction. Despite the prompt response from emergency services, the bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

Neither the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado nor the driver of the Ford sustained injuries. CHP has indicated that alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash.

Wrongful Death Claims

Whether or not a collision results in criminal charges for any of those involved, families who have lost a loved one in a fatal collision may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim with the insurance provider of the at-fault driver.

The compensation provided by a Wrongful Death claim can relieve the financial burdens created by medical expenses, burial costs, and the loss of income needed to support the deceased’s dependents.

Insurance companies will work to reduce any claim they cannot deny. This is where the help of a knowledgeable personal injury attorney proves invaluable, negotiating on behalf of victims and their families to ensure they receive proper compensation.
