Richmond, CA – A tragic accident claimed the life of 16-year-old Ricardo Funes on Sunday night, July 14, 2024, when his vehicle was struck by a suspected drunk driver at the intersection of Ohio Avenue and South 20th Street, according to NBC Bay Area.
Funes was driving near Ohio Avenue and South 20th Street when his vehicle was hit by another driver, who police suspect was impaired at the time of the crash. The suspect, a 30-year-old Richmond man, suffered minor injuries and now faces charges of manslaughter and driving under the influence.
The fatal crash occurred as Ricardo was leaving his aunt’s house, where the family had gathered to watch the Copa America final game and enjoy tacos together. Family members rushed to the scene and found Ricardo trapped in his vehicle, surrounded by crushed metal and broken glass. Despite their desperate attempts to keep him awake and responsive, Ricardo succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
