Head-on Crash Kills 1, Injures 3 Including Toddler on Canal School Rd near Hwy 33 in Merced County

Merced County, CA — A tragic car accident on Thursday afternoon, July 4, 2024, claimed the life of a 22-year-old man from Seaside and injured three from Stockton, one of whom was a small child, according to KCRA.

The collision occurred just after 4:35 PM on Canal School Road, north of Highway 33. According to the preliminary investigation, the Seaside man was driving southbound when he crossed the solid yellow centerline for reasons yet to be determined. This resulted in a head-on collision with a northbound vehicle.

The 22-year-old driver sustained fatal injuries from the impact of the crash and died at the scene. His identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

In the other vehicle, a man, woman, and 2-year-old child, all Stockton residents, received injuries ranging from minor to major. All three were transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has not disclosed further details about their conditions.

CHP investigators do not suspect drugs or alcohol to be contributing factors in the crash. The exact cause of why the driver veered into the opposite lane remains under investigation.

Personal Injury Claims

When the actions of reckless drivers cause injuries to others, the cost of caring for those injuries should not fall on the victims. Filing a claim with the at-fault driver’s insurance provider can offer compensation to help cover medical bills and the time taken off work to recover.

However, insurance companies have a vested interest in denying or minimizing claims. This is why the assistance of a knowledgeable personal injury attorney can make all the difference.
