Ceres, CA — On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, Ceres police arrested 44-year-old Ceres man Jose Ayala in connection with a June 20, 2024, incident in which the driver of an older model white Ford Ranger allegedly struck a pedestrian intentionally before fleeing the scene, according to The Modesto Bee.
According to a news release from the Ceres Police Department, Ayala was taken into custody and charged with attempted murder and reckless driving. Ayala is being held at the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center with bail set at $510,000.
The victim of the incident, identified as a 38-year-old man from Oakdale, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. The collision occurred around 5:50 PM on June 20 at the intersection of Musick Avenue and Lucchesi Lane.
Detectives are still investigating the motive behind this alarming event. According to the news release, the Ford Ranger involved in the collision was leaking engine fluid, creating a trail that led officers to a residence in the 1400 block of Nadine Avenue. Although the vehicle was located at this address, the driver was not present at the time.
Through diligent investigative work, detectives identified Ayala as the alleged driver of the vehicle. A search warrant was executed, leading to Ayala’s arrest at a home on Glen Meadow Court.
The Ceres Police Department is urging anyone with additional information regarding this incident to come forward.
Duty of Care Toward Pedestrians
Drivers are entrusted with a specific “Duty of Care” towards pedestrians, who are more vulnerable and prone to fatal injuries in traffic accidents. Nevertheless, establishing liability can be intricate, influenced by various factors. This process of sorting through complexities to determine fault is one of the crucial services that a personal injury attorney can offer.
Even after fault is determined, insurance companies often strive to minimize claims they cannot reject outright. This is where a personal injury attorney can be invaluable, advocating on behalf of victims to secure the full compensation they rightfully deserve.
