Bakersfield, CA — On Friday morning, June 21, 2024, on Cecil Avenue, a fatal two-vehicle collision claimed the life of a 20-year-old man from Richgrove and left a 23-year-old woman from McFarland hospitalized, KBAK reports.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the incident occurred at approximately 3:05 AM near the intersection of Famoso Porterville Highway and Cecil Avenue.
Preliminary findings by CHP indicate that the Richgrove man was driving a Toyota eastbound on Cecil Avenue when he inexplicably turned north onto Famoso Porterville Highway. This brought him directly into the path of a southbound Honda driven by the Richgrove woman, traveling between 60 to 65 mph on Famoso Porterville Highway.
The collision resulted in catastrophic consequences, with the Toyota driver succumbing to his injuries at the scene. Meanwhile, the Honda driver sustained moderate injuries and was promptly transported to Kern Medical for treatment.
Authorities are investigating the possibility of alcohol being a contributing factor in the crash.
Wrongful Death Claims
Establishing fault in a collision can depend on multiple factors. One crucial way a personal injury attorney can assist grieving families is by determining legal liability after the loss of a loved one in a traffic accident.
If another party is found to hold some responsibility for the death, the family may be eligible to file a Wrongful Death claim with the at-fault driver’s insurance provider. This claim can provide compensation to help cover hospital fees, burial costs, and the loss of support for the deceased’s dependents.
