Carmel Valley, CA – KSBW reports that, on Saturday, June 23, 2024, a driver identified by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office as 33-year-old Chet Miller of Carmel Valley lost his life when his vehicle overturned down a steep embankment.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that Miller was driving a Toyota Tacoma east on Carmel Valley Road, just east of Klondike Road. For reasons still under investigation, Miller failed to negotiate a left-hand curve, causing the vehicle to collide with a guardrail. The Toyota then plunged over the guardrail, tumbling down the embankment and coming to rest on its roof.
Emergency responders received notification of the crash around 11:27 AM. Upon arrival, firefighters accessed the vehicle and discovered one occupant, Miller, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Currently, it is unclear whether drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash. The CHP continues to investigate the incident to determine the exact cause.
Liability in Single-Vehicle Collisions
In certain situations, investigations may uncover that some liability for a single-vehicle collision falls on other drivers nearby or even on unsafe roadway structures. Sorting through these details to help victims and their families secure proper compensation is one of the key services a personal injury attorney offers.
After establishing liability, a personal injury attorney can negotiate with insurance companies on the victim’s behalf. Insurance companies invariably aim to minimize payouts for claims they cannot deny, making legal representation crucial for obtaining fair compensation.
