Elderly Woman Hospitalized after Hwy 101, Tassajara Creek Rd Crash near Cuesta Grade in San San Luis Obispo

San Luis Obispo, CA – According to The San Luis Obispo Tribune, on Tuesday morning, June 13, 2024, an 83-year-old Cambria woman received major injuries following a collision on Highway 101 near the Cuesta Grade.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the collision transpired around 8:50 AM, on southbound Highway 101 at Tassajara Creek Road, south of Santa Margarita.

The elderly woman was driving a 2011 Toyota Camry eastbound on Tassajara Creek Road when she pulled out in front of a 2017 Honda Civic being driven by a 47-year-old man from Atascadero, who had a passenger in the vehicle.

The impact occurred when the front of the Honda collided with the left rear end of the Toyota, resulting in significant damage to both vehicles and injuries to their occupants. The driver of the Honda suffered minor facial abrasions and torso pain, while the elderly woman driving the Toyota sustained substantial injuries.

Emergency services transported the injured woman to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center for urgent medical attention. Fortunately, the male driver of the Honda did not require hospitalization.

CHP’s initial investigation has ruled out drugs or alcohol as factors contributing to the accident.

Personal Injury Claims

Determining fault in a collision can hinge on various factors, and in California, partial liability can be assigned to multiple parties. Assisting in establishing legal liability is one of the key roles that a personal injury attorney can fulfill for victims recovering from a traffic accident.

If it’s found that the actions of another party played a role in the injuries sustained, victims may qualify to file a personal injury claim with the insurance provider of those responsible. Such a claim can offer compensation to help offset hospital expenses, burial costs, and the loss of income incurred from taking time off work for recovery.
