Natomas, CA – On Tuesday morning, June 11, 2024, a cyclist was fatally struck at an intersection at Club Center and Banfield Drives, according to The Sacramento Bee. This marked the third fatal vehicle collision involving a non-motorist in the city within less than 12 hours.
Authorities were alerted to the crash involving a vehicle and a bicycle around 7:30 AM in the Natomas Park neighborhood. The cyclist, a male of unknown age, was struck and immediately transported to a hospital, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries, as confirmed by police. The identity of the victim was pending release by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office pending notification of relatives.
Councilwoman Lisa Kaplan, who represents the Natomas area, expressed awareness of the tragic event and informed that the police were conducting an investigation into the incident.
Referring to another fatal cyclist collision in south Sacramento and a fatal pedestrian crash outside Arden Fair Mall, both occurring the previous night, Kaplan urged, “Please drive, bike & walk safely as there has been 3 deaths in the city these past 24 hours between vehicles & bike/walkers.”
The driver involved in the collision remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to the Sacramento Police Department. It was determined that neither drugs nor alcohol played a role in the crash, as stated by the agency.
