Monterey County, CA — According to KSBW, early Sunday morning, June 9, 2024, a fatal pedestrian collision in Monterey County resulted in the death of 42-year-old Moraga man Edward Hyun Kang.
At approximately 4:28 AM, a black Mercedes A220 was traveling west on Espinosa Road, just east of Highway 183. For reasons yet to be determined, Kang found himself directly in the vehicle’s path.
The impact was severe, and the vehicle continued its westward course before coming to a stop at a nearby agricultural field. The driver remained at the scene and fully cooperated with law enforcement.
Kang was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mercedes, who has not been publicly identified, did not suffer any injuries in the accident.
At this time, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing. The CHP is working to understand the events that led to this unfortunate loss of life.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Motorists are required to exercise an additional “duty of care” towards pedestrians due to their heightened vulnerability in car accidents, which more often result in pedestrian fatalities. Motorists are expected to stay with injured pedestrians to help secure help from emergency services and cooperate with authorities once they arrive.
Those who lose their loved one to a vehicular fatality should know that a Wrongful Death Claim, made with the help of a knowledgeable personal injury attorney, can provide compensation to address the financial burden of medical bills, burial fees, and the loss of income to support any dependents of the deceased.
