Fresno, CA — A fatal collision claimed the life of a 40-year-old man on Friday night, June 7, 2024, after he was struck by a truck while riding his bicycle, according to KSEE.
The crash occurred around 11:25 PM on Clinton Avenue, near Highway 99. Authorities responded to the scene following reports of a collision involving a bicyclist and a truck.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man was riding his bicycle eastbound on Clinton Avenue, approaching Highway 99, when he was hit by a truck traveling in the same direction. The impact left the cyclist with severe injuries.
Emergency medical personnel quickly transported the injured man to a nearby hospital. Despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The driver of the truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with law enforcement. Detectives are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, and it remains unclear whether any factors such as speed, visibility, or potential impairment may have contributed to the accident.

Bicyclists are owed a “duty of care” from drivers no matter where they meet. This legal responsibility stems from the fact that bicyclists travel with less protection alongside heavier and faster cars, trucks, and SUVs. Motorists are legally obligated to monitor the roads ahead, and all mirrors and blind spots, for any rider who may be nearby. Drivers must hit the brakes to avoid any chance of a collision.
Drivers must also stop once a collision has occurred to get medical attention for a bicyclist or pedestrian as fast as possible. Remaining on the scene, turning on hazard lights, and blocking off traffic also reduce the chances of the victim being struck by approaching motorists who may not be able to see an injured bicyclist down in the street.
