Redwood City, CA – Early Friday morning, May 31, 2024, a Redwood City man lost his life following a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 101, KRON reports.
The initial accident occurred at 2:56 AM, when the man, driving a red Hyundai northbound on Highway 101 just north of San Antonio Road, crashed into a pole. The crash left the Hyundai in a non-operational state, blocking the fourth lane of the highway.
Approximately 20 minutes later, the Golden Gate Communication Center (GGCC) received reports of a second crash involving the stationary red Hyundai, a Scion, and a Freightliner.
Preliminary investigations by the CHP revealed that the Scion encountered debris from the Hyundai partially obstructing the lane. In an attempt to avoid the debris, the Scion moved into the fourth lane and collided with the disabled Hyundai. A northbound Freightliner swerved to avoid both the Hyundai and the Scion but collided with the Hyundai, resulting in fatal injuries to the man from Redwood City.
The occupants of the Scion did not sustain any injuries. The driver of the Freightliner, although his vehicle suffered minor damage, declined immediate medical transportation. The CHP has stated that the investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing as they work to determine the exact sequence of events and any additional contributing factors.
Wrongful Death Claims
Establishing fault in a collision can depend on multiple factors. Helping to determine legal liability is one of the ways that a personal injury attorney can help grieving families recovering from the loss of a loved one in a traffic accident.
Suppose it is determined that another party holds some portion of responsibility for their loved one’s death. In that case, they may be eligible to file a wrongful death claim with the insurance provider of the at-fault driver. A wrongful death claim can provide compensation to help cover hospital fees, burial costs, and the loss of support for dependents of the deceased.
