Oroville, CA — According to KRCR, on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, two people lost their lives in a crash on Highway 70. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the collision occurred around 10 AM on the Feather River Bridge, just north of Montgomery Street.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a white Volkswagen CC, occupied by two individuals, stopped on the Feather River Bridge for reasons still under investigation. Meanwhile, a red Ram pickup truck driver, identified as Elijah Kinser, was traveling northbound on Highway 70 at 65 MPH.
The CHP reports that Kinser failed to notice the stationary Volkswagen in time. The impact of the crash resulted in fatal injuries to the driver of the Volkswagen. The passenger, initially transported to a local hospital in critical condition, unfortunately succumbed to his injuries later. Kinser sustained minor injuries and received treatment at the scene.
This tragic accident highlights the critical importance of road safety and the devastating consequences that can arise from even a momentary lapse in attention. The identities of the Volkswagen occupants are being withheld pending notification of their next of kin.
Wrongful Death Claims
Whether or not a crash results in criminal charges for one of those involved, families who have lost a loved one in a fatal collision may be able to file a wrongful death claim with the insurance provider of the at-fault driver.
The compensation provided by a wrongful death claim can relieve the financial burdens created by medical expenses, burial costs, and the loss of income to support any dependents of the deceased.
Insurance companies will work to reduce any claim they cannot deny, which is where the help of a knowledgeable personal injury attorney can prove invaluable by negotiating on behalf of victims and their families to ensure they receive proper compensation.
