Elk Grove, CA — A man died in the hospital on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, after being injured in a crash in Elk Grove the previous night following a police pursuit of a stolen vehicle, according to ABC10.

The Elk Grove Police Department responded to reports of a stolen vehicle around 9:20 PM on Monday near Grant Line Road and Highway 99. Officers located the vehicle and attempted to pull over the driver, but the situation escalated into a high-speed chase.

The pursuit led into a neighborhood where officers temporarily lost sight of the vehicle. As the suspect vehicle exited the neighborhood onto Laguna Boulevard, it collided with a Nissan at the intersection with Franklin Boulevard. The Nissan was turning onto Franklin Boulevard when the collision occurred.

The driver of the Nissan, identified as a 55-year-old man, was critically injured and transported to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. His name has not been released pending notification of his family.

Shockingly, the driver of the stolen vehicle was a 13-year-old. He was also taken to a hospital for treatment and subsequently arrested. The teenager faces several charges, including felony evading and felony evading resulting in serious injury or death. He has been booked into Juvenile Hall.

Wrongful Death Claims

While no amount of money can bring back those who lose their lives in a vehicular fatality, the emotional burden of their loss is often accompanied by a financial burden that falls on their surviving family members.

A wrongful death claim filed with the insurance provider of parties who bear even partial liability can provide compensation to help cover medical expenses, burial costs, and even the loss of support for dependents of the deceased.

However, because insurance companies carry the incentive to reduce the payout for any claim they cannot deny, the services of a skilled personal injury attorney can prove crucial in securing justice for the deceased.
