Sacramento, CA — A driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI after a tragic head-on collision along Sacramento’s Business 80 on Sunday night, June 2, 2024, that resulted in the death of 30-year-old Cheryl Reed, according to CBS13.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the crash occurred around 9:15 PM in the northbound freeway lanes near the Exposition Boulevard offramp. A Toyota Corolla, driven by a man in his 30s, was traveling the wrong way and collided with a Nissan Altima.
Following the collision, the driver of the Corolla fled the scene. The driver of the Altima was transported to the hospital with unspecified injuries, while the passenger in the Altima, identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as Reed, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers later located the Corolla driver and arrested him on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run. The details leading up to the crash remain unclear, and the CHP continues to investigate.
Wrongful Death Claims
Whether or not a crash results in criminal charges for one of those involved, families who have lost a loved one in a fatal collision may be able to file a wrongful death claim with the insurance provider of the at-fault driver.
The compensation provided by a wrongful death claim can relieve the financial burdens created by medical expenses, burial costs, and the loss of income to support any dependents of the deceased.
Insurance companies will work to reduce any claim they cannot deny, which is where the help of a knowledgeable personal injury attorney can prove invaluable by negotiating on behalf of victims and their families to ensure they receive proper compensation.
