Susan McFarlane, 70, Killed in Memorial Day ATV Crash on Springfield Dr in Nevada County

Nevada County, CA – In a tragic Memorial Day accident, May 27, 2024, a 70-year-old woman identified as Susan McFarlane lost her life when her ATV rolled over on private property in Nevada County, according to ABC10.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that officers were dispatched at approximately 8:50 AM to a residence on Springfield Drive, east of Dog Bar Road, following a report of an ATV crash.

The victim was driving a 2003 Yamaha Kodiak quad when she attempted an unsafe turning maneuver. This caused the ATV to roll over, ejecting her from the vehicle. McFarlane suffered severe head and neck injuries from the fall. She died at the scene despite the efforts of first responders.

The incident is currently under investigation by the CHP, though initial reports indicate that neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected factors in the crash. The authorities have not disclosed the ownership of the property where the accident occurred.

Liability in Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some circumstances, investigations can reveal that some portion of the liability for a single-vehicle collision might fall upon other drivers in the vicinity of the accident or even unsafe roadway structures. Working through the particulars of liability to help victims and their families find proper compensation is one of the many services a personal injury attorney can provide.

Once liability has been established, a personal injury attorney can also negotiate on behalf of the victim with insurance companies, who will always seek to minimize the payout for any claim they cannot deny.
