Santa Maria, CA — According to KEYT, an 80-year-old Santa Maria man lost his life, and two others were injured following a three-vehicle collision on Highway 101 near Union Valley Parkway on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the incident occurred around 12:15 PM when the elderly man was driving his 2007 Honda Civic southbound on Highway 101 toward stopped traffic near Union Valley Parkway.
For reasons that remain unknown, his Honda Civic failed to slow down and collided with the back of a Dodge Durango. The impact pushed the Durango into a third vehicle, a 1996 Dodge 2500 pickup truck.
Emergency personnel arrived promptly and provided treatment to the Honda driver and two passengers in the Dodge Durango. All three were transported to Marian Regional Medical Center for further medical care.
The two passengers from the Dodge Durango received medical treatment and were subsequently released, as confirmed by the CHP. Sadly, the driver of the Honda succumbed to his injuries while at the hospital.
The CHP has not yet disclosed the identity of the deceased man, pending notification of his next of kin. The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.
Personal Injury Claims
After a vehicular accident, in addition to emotional distress, victims and their families can be overwhelmed with the sudden financial burdens of medical bills, loss of income due to recovery time, and, in unfortunate circumstances, burial fees.
The responsibility for these costs should fall upon those responsible for causing these injuries and their insurance provider. However, insurance companies will try to minimize the compensation for any claim they cannot deny, which is why having the help of a skilled personal injury attorney can prove crucial in ensuring justice for victims of vehicular accidents.
