One Fatality, Multiple Injuries after Solo-Vehicle Crash on I-580 in Tracy

Tracy, CA — A single-vehicle collision in the early hours of Sunday morning, May 19, 2024, resulted in one fatality and left three others hospitalized in Tracy, according to KCRA.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:04 AM east of Chrisman Road on Interstate 580. California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that a Toyota sedan was traveling eastbound on the interstate when the driver lost control of the vehicle while navigating a turn. The Toyota veered across the median into the westbound lanes, struck the guardrail, and eventually collided with the freeway perimeter fence.

The front-seat passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

The driver and the right rear passenger sustained major injuries and were transported to San Joaquin General Hospital for treatment. The left rear passenger, who suffered minor injuries, was taken to Sutter Tracy Community Hospital.

Preliminary investigations by the CHP indicate that alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash. The cause of the driver losing control is still under investigation.

Liability in Solo-Vehicle Collisions

In some circumstances, investigations can reveal that some portion of the liability for a solo-vehicle collision might fall upon other drivers in the vicinity of the accident or even unsafe roadway structures. Working through the particulars of liability to help victims and their families find proper compensation is one of the many services a personal injury attorney can provide.

Once liability has been established, a personal injury attorney can also negotiate on behalf of the victim with insurance companies, who will always seek to minimize the payout for any claim they cannot deny.

Passenger Liability

The liability insurance that drivers carry is not just meant to cover accidental harm caused to those outside of the vehicle. A driver is responsible for the safety of those in their vehicle as well.

While making a Wrongful Death or Personal Injury claim against someone who knew the victim personally may prove emotionally challenging, the financial burdens following a vehicular accident can be hefty. A good personal injury attorney can help grieving families seek proper compensation for their loss while navigating these tricky issues.
