Sacramento County, CA – According to CBS13, Tuesday night, May 7, 2024, a multi-vehicle crash resulted in one fatality and a suspected DUI arrest.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the incident occurred around 9:30 PM just north of Sacramento, near the intersection of Elverta Road and Dominion Way in the vicinity of Antelope.
The sequence of events began when a truck came to a stop at the intersection. Suddenly, another truck rear-ended the stationary vehicle, propelling it into the path of a third truck in the intersection. The impact of this collision proved fatal for the driver of the second truck, described only as a man possibly in his 60s or 70s.
The driver of the third truck fled the scene but was later apprehended. This individual faces charges of hit-and-run and driving under the influence (DUI). Remarkably, the driver in the first truck, who endured being struck twice, thankfully escaped the incident without injuries.
Wrongful Death Claims
Even in cases where criminal charges are not brought to bear, families who have lost a loved one in a fatal collision may be able to file a wrongful death claim with the insurance provider of the at-fault driver.
The compensation provided by a wrongful death claim can relieve the financial burdens created by medical expenses, burial costs, and the loss of income to support any dependents of the deceased.
Insurance companies will work to reduce any claim they cannot deny, which is where the help of a knowledgeable personal injury attorney can prove invaluable by negotiating on behalf of victims and their families to ensure they receive proper compensation.
