Fresno, CA – According to the Fresno Bee, on Friday night, May 3, 2024, near the Fashion Fair Shopping Center on East Shaw Avenue, a woman lost her life and a man was critically injured after they were struck by a vehicle.
Around 8:15 PM, Fresno PD officers observed a vehicle operating without its headlights on and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. However, the vehicle evaded the stop, leading to a brief pursuit. The vehicle eventually collided with the victims, a woman and a man, at 8:25 PM behind the baseball backstop at Cary Park, located near Fashion Fair.
Unfortunately, the impact claimed the life of the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The man, aged 30, sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
The pursuit of the suspect’s vehicle continued through the Fashion Fair parking lot, with the vehicle eventually becoming stuck between a pole and a tree at Santa Ana Avenue and Thesta Street. Two individuals fled from the vehicle in an unknown direction as officers launched a search for the suspects.
The Fresno Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit has taken charge of investigating this deadly collision, as authorities work tirelessly to piece together the events leading up to this tragic outcome.
